The Categories page allows you to view and manage the category trees registered on Seller Portal. To access the page on VTEX Admin, go to Catalog > Categories.

From the category tree, you can:

Creating a category

To create a new category, click on the Create category button. Fill in the fields on the New category modal according to the information below.

First, you must set your category to Active or Inactive . An active category will be displayed in the store and can have products associated with it. You can activate and deactivate a category at any time.

Basic information

Next, you must fill in basic information about the category you want to create.

  • Name: name of the category. Required field.
  • Parent category: if the category you created is a subcategory or a category of a department, you must use this field to enter the parent category to which it belongs.

Storefront

Then, use this section to configure information relevant to your store's menu and navigation.

  • Show on menu: button to enable or disable the display of the category on the store.
  • Filter by brand: button that allows you to filter the category by brand.

Click on Save to finish.

Search categories

To find a category, you must type the name of the category in the search bar above the category tree. Search results are updated in real time. As you type, the category list displayed is updated according to the term you are searching for.

Browsing the category tree

The categories page displays the outermost levels of the categories. Click on the icon to access the subcategories, as shown below.

To view the information for a category, click on its name.

Managing categories

You can edit the information for each category by clicking on the button on each row. This button opens a menu with the following options:

  • Edit: this option opens the category page, where you can modify the information you want. To edit a category, you can also click on the category row.
  • Create subcategory: this option opens a page where you can create a new subcategory.
  • Deactivate: this option automatically deactivates the category.
  • Activate: this option automatically activates the category.
